The Controversy Surrounding the Gerber ASEK

!±8± The Controversy Surrounding the Gerber ASEK

The Gerber ASEK knife comes only in one package. It is the Green Foliage Gerber LMF II ASEK knife. This knife ONLY comes in the foliage green and it has infra-red resistance built into the handle and sheath material.

Almost every knife dealer I have found lists the Gerber SURVIVAL knife package as a Gerber ASEK. This is completely false. The Gerber SURVIVAL knife ONLY comes in camel brown. (By the way, that is the official color of this knife even though you will find dealers listing it as coyote brown.)

What makes it the SURVIVAL model you ask? The answer is that it comes with the exact same accessories as the ASEK knife.

AH HA! You say, then it IS an ASEK. No, don't fall into the same trap everyone else did. This knife DOES NOT have the infra-red resistance that the Gerber LMF ASEK does.

Now, you CAN get the foliage green knife, as well as the camel brown knife, and ALSO the black knife in one other package. That is the Gerber INFANTRY version. The only accessory you get with this version is the sheath.

I have seen all of these knives listed in different configurations on many websites. Very few get it correct. I was told by one company that "it was how they were listed from their supplier". I even found one VERY good review on the Gerber LMF II ASEK, but the video was of the survival version.

The moral to this story is: Buy your Gerber ASEK, Survival, or Infantry knife from a reputable dealer and always check your order with the Gerber serial number of the knife you are buying.
